Animal advocacy often requires us to confront difficult realities—suffering, exploitation, regulatory failures and the many ways wildlife continues to be failed. But decades of working with and advocating for animals have also taught me the importance of recognizing progress. On a Positive Note is dedicated to those moments: animals given a second chance, meaningful reforms, successful rescues, habitat protections, advances in our understanding of animal sentience and the people and organizations working to create a better future for wildlife. Celebrating progress does not diminish the work still ahead. It reminds us why that work matters—and demonstrates what becomes possible when knowledge, compassion and accountability lead to meaningful change.
